Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) is a safe, gentle, and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue. Unlike traditional methods that treat symptoms, MFR addresses the root cause by releasing tension within the web-like fascia that surrounds every muscle, nerve, organ, and cell in your body.

What is Fascia?

What is JFB MFR ?

Fascia is a specialized system of the body whose appearance is similar to a spider’s web or woven sweater. It is densely woven connective tissue covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery, and vein, as well as all of our organs including heart, lungs, brain, and spinal cord.

Fascia surrounds every cell in the body; it is one continuous three-dimensional structure that exists from head to toe and fingertip, without interruption. It is a fluid and elastic material that gives us our shape, carries nerve impulses, and connects each part of the entire body to every other part.

In its normal state, fascia is relaxed; it stretches and moves without restriction. The fascial system is a liquid crystalline matrix which functions similar to a fibre optic network. When fascia becomes restricted, it compresses and bears down on all of the underlying structures causing pain, tension, and dysfunction throughout the body.

The John F. Barnes Myofascial Release approach is a very safe and effective hands-on technique that involves a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy: Myofascial Release, Myofascial Rebounding, and Myofascial Unwinding.

Conventional medicine usually treats myopic symptoms, but the JFB MFR techniques allow us to look at and treat each person holistically. The MFR therapist partners with you and holds space for healing to occur, engaging with you to help you feel more deeply into your body, so that your body can heal itself.

MFR therapists use gentle sustained pressure on restrictions in the body to facilitate elimination of pain, restore motion, and improve function and posture. This essential “time element” allows the viscoelastic medium of fascia to elongate safely and effectively.

Each session is as unique as you are. Treatments are performed directly on skin without oils or lotions. It is recommended to wear undergarment clothing as stretching and movement may be involved during treatment.
